Tensho

It refers to, in a broad sense, all the styles used before the Qin dynasty and “Sho-Ten” which was adopted formally by Shin-huang-ti (221 BC) after the unification of China. Today in Japan Tensho can be seen on their seals.

The way of writing

Reisho characters are flat, and Tensho characters have the distinction of being oblong. Basically horizontal strokes should be exactly horizontal and vertical strokes should be exactly vertical. Kihitsu must be written, same as Reisho, with “Gyaku-hitsu” or the way of entering the tip of a brush in the opposite direction and “Zouhou” or the way of concealing the tip of a brush.

※When you write Sho-Ten, be aware of uniform thickness of lines.
